Kanye West - Street Lights

Video treatment by Spain's Javier Longobardo.

Amelia - Trailer

Strong cast in this one...

Obviously about Amelia Earhart, avaiation goddess.

Beat Street - Breakerz vs Rock Steady

A b-boy battle scene from the classic 80's flick Beat Street.

I loved breakdancing as a kid. I used to try to windwmill at school and would put holes in my school uniform. The windwill around the 1:40 mark is amazing. I wasn't quite that good.

White Denim - 'I Start To Run' (Video)

A great video for the new White Denim single.

I tried to post the mp3 to this a while back, but inadvertantly posted an album track by mistake (Reminder to self: you need to edit that post title).

From their new album 'Fits', which is out now.

Liverpool 3-3 West Ham (3-1 pens)

Wow.

Stevie G = God

Tweet - Oops (Oh My) feat. Missy Elliott (Video)

A favourite of mine from a few years back.

It's about "touching" ones self, by the way...

Meth & Red - Miss International feat. Erick Sermon

DAMN! I'm still reeling from MJ going.

Anyway, this is some light hearted fun.

The song is okay, the video is aiight (that's 'aiight', alright?). You know who Method Man is, and you know who Redman is. If you don't, get the fuck off this blog and never come back.

This also features the Green Eyed Bandit, E-Double, emcee/producer Erick Sermon of EPMD (I'll give you young dudes who don't know your classic NY Hip Hop from the 80's/early 90's a pass on that... "when I come around homeboy watch your nugget, a master of the beatdown, my style's rugged").

Daybreakers - Trailer

Does the world need another Vampire film?

Beck covers The Velvet Underground

'Sunday Morning' by The Velvet Underground & Nico, covered by Beck.

Michael Jackson - Legend

Motown 25, 1983.

The moment that changed music.

Farrah Fawcett

Farrah Fawcett died today of that evil bastard disease that I can't bring myself to mention.
-
Ms Fawcett was a legend, for a number of reasons (beautiful, married the 6 Million Dollar Man, beautiful, was in Charlie's Angels, beautiful, etc).
-
Ta-ra Farrah. Take it easy up there.

Spread - Trailer

I'd rather eat a Shit and Pinapple pizza than watch this.

I'd rather be stung on my iris by a scorpian than watch this.

I'd rather have a ballbag for a nose than watch this.

I'd rather go to work in a suit jacket, shirt and tie but be naked from the waist down than watch this.

Posted purely for archive purposes, bitches.

Kanye West x Louis Vuitton Footwear

'Meh' in the extreme.

Would you drop £400 on a pair of these? Nope, me either.

Promo video made in conjunction with highsnobiety.com.

Nyle - Let The Beat Build (Video)

Shot in one take, and everything you hear is being played live, as the camera pans to them. Impressive.

Of course, this is a cover of the Kanye West-produced album cut from Lil' Wayne's (spit) Tha Carter III album.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground (Video)

Probabl my favourite British band at the moment.

Not everybody's cup of tea, I'm sure, but I for one am eagerly awaiting their debut album having loved their more recent singles Evening/Morning and Always Like This.

2012 - Trailer

Wow.

Mr Independance day gets a bigger Special Effects budget!

Johnny Depp = Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's forthcoming fantasy-fest, Alice In Wonderland. I was just talking to the wife the other day about wanting to see Johnny Depp in more serious roles. Clearly this isn't going to be one of those.

Go to USA Today for more photos.

Julia Dales - Beatbox Champ

I spotted this on MTV's 'It's On with Alexa Chung', the replacement for TRL Live in the US.

The existence of the show was a surprise in itself... this is a primetime pop show with huge ratings across the states, and not only is it hosted by our very own T4 presenting, arctic monkey-dating fashion princess Ms Chung, it's also named after her. Hollywood beckons, I'm sure...

Anyway, here's a video of one of her recent guests, a 17 year old Beatboxing champ. I suppose this story is interesting to many because she's a 17 year old, middle class white girl, and not a fat dude from the Bronx.

I find it interesting because she's good, and it's all a bit nuts at times, particularly when she drops in Britney and Black Eyed Peas 'samples'.

Nice & Smooth - Sometimes I Rhyme Slow mp3

Blasphemous or Genius?
-
Sometimes it's a thin line. Personally, I think this falls into the latter category.
Utilising an obvious sample from Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car', this 1991 classic offers a different vibe to Ms Chapmans ode to a miserable life. One thing is certain though... NYC duo Greg Nice and Smooth B got it badly wrong with their choice of jackets for the cover art. Tassles and Leather? Noooooooooooooo!

Darth Vader In Love (Video)

Comedic... anything Star Wars related is still a must for me.

Wale - Um Ricka (feat. K'Naan) mp3

Produced by Mark Ronson (the horns are unmistakable) and featuring K'Naan (straight out of Compton Mogadishu, Somalia).
-
Wale is one of the hot new properties in US Hip Hop. You may remember his debut mixtape built around vocal snippets and themes inspired from the TV show Seinfeld (called Mixtape About Nothing... and featuring this cover). This is taken from his new mixtape with 9th Wonder 'Back To The Feature', which dropped last night.
-
This track has a fittingly tribal beat, and obviously, the horns are grrrrreat.

Pirelli Calendar 2010 - Preview

The legendary tyre-makers 2010 nudie calendar (all done tastefully, of course) shot by pervy snapper Terry Richardson and featuring top end models like Daisy Lowe and Catherine McNeil.

-
The hat photo above (click HERE for a close up) will take some beating.

Kasabian - Fire (Video)

This has grown on me massively.

The first few times I heard it, it just sounded like a Doors rip off. Now though, I love it.

Like I love lamp.

Kings Of Leon - Notion (Video)

It is what it is...

Zombieland - Trailer

'This film is not yet rated'... it needs to be an 18 to fully realise it's potential.

'Cold Souls' - Trailer

"Your soul is in Russia"

Surreal.

Alchemist & Oh No - Under Seige

Taken from the Californians' collabo LP, 'Gangrene'.

Oh No is the mighty Madlib's little brother (like I said before), and Alc is a Beverley Hills educated rich kid-turned Hip Hop Superproducer for acts like Evidence and Mobb Deep. He went to school with Angelina Jolie. He used to be in a group called The Whooliganz with Scott Caan (yes, the one from Oceans 11, who makes a cameo in this video around the 49 seconds mark, and is the son of James Caan, the hothead from The Godfather).

Too much information?

Maxwell - This Woman's Work mp3

This is not a leak. This is not a new remix. It's just brilliant.
-
There is a live version of this track (which, obviously, is a cover of the Kate Bush classic) that blows this studio version to bits. You can find that version on Maxwell's MTV Unplugged album. I compel you to search high and low (or maybe just iTunes) for it if you like this version.
-

Mos Def - History mp3 (feat Talib Kweli) & Pistola mp3

Pick up Mos Def's new album when it drops... it's great Hip Hop music.
-
"Everybody act according to the season they were born in"
(c) Mos Def, 'History'
-
This first track is produced by J Dilla, and features Talib Kweli, as he and Mos put Black Star back together.
The second track is produced by the mighty Madlib's little bro, Oh No. It's a bit strange, but in a good way. Enjoy them both...

Coming To America - Sexual Chocolate

Classic humour...

Shutter Island - Trailer (Video)

New from Martin Scorsese and Leo D.

Interesting genre for Scorsese. I suppose this is his first foray into psych-horror (if you exclude the final scenes of Goodfellas, which can still give me nightmares).

La Roux - Bulletproof (Video)

Good pop track. Good video. Bad barnet.

An Interview with Jean Touitou of A.P.C.

hypebeast have interviewed A.P.C. supremo jean Touitou.
-
The Parisian super-label (my shirtmaker of choice) boss talks about his new location in Hong Kong's Central district, his companies collaborations (Nike & K-Way), his relationship with high end Japanese designers (SOPHNET), his thoughts on streetwear (BAPE) and much more.

Passive Aggressive Signs

I love this kind of thing.
-
From passiveaggressivenotes.com, where you'll find more 'painfully polite and hilariously hostile notes from around the world'. They have a book out too, entitled 'Your Mother Doesn't Work Here!', obviously inspired by an angry work-related note.

Bike envy!

A customised FBM Sword, spotted at the cool French home of novoid plus boutique.

I want one.

Flash Mob - Hammer Pants Dancers

Comedy. Without doubt the best flash mob I've seen or heard of.

The old guy in the headband is a legend.

If I was out shopping and this happened, I'd have joined in...

Common Projects Safari Boot

I love these.
-
"The Safari boot is a new style for s/s 09 from Common Projects and is a playful edition to the collection. A cream nappa high top upper with a simply laced vamp and matching cream rubber sole, this sneaker has a low tongue and long oval toe that differentiate it from a classic basketball style. This is one of the most minimalist shoes C P have come up with and it looks fantastic, as always the Common Projects propriety stamp is on the heel representing the shoe’s individual serial number and style".
-
From Common Projects, available at oki-ni now for £235.

Kanye West - Paranoid (Video) w/ Rihanna

I'm not a fan of the track, but the video is very cool. Watch with the sound down?

-

Update: Damn. Video taken down. Pesky copyright laws!

Chairlift - Bruises (Video)

I'm sure this will be massive, but I can't work out if I like it or if it's VERY ANNOYING. We'll see...

Bearbrick Credit Cards

Spotted at highsnobiety:
-
JCB has announced a collaboration with Medicom Toy and Ping An Bank. As part of the partnership they will be releasing a series of credit cards, featuring the infamous Medicom Bearbrick character. In the first series there will be 5 different Bearbrick Credit Cards. Look out for the release soon.

Jay-Z - D.O.A. mp3 / Funk Flex & Mister Cee @ Hot97

Death of Autotune. It needed saying...
'Get back to rap, you're T-Paining too much!'
-
From the forthcoming album 'Blueprint 3', produced by No I.D. (Kanye West's mentor). The guitar sample is superb. The horn break is amazing.
-
-
And the release of this is a BIG DEAL. For Jay-Z fans obviously, but also for Hip Hop fans who hate the way the music/culture is going. If you need to understand how much of a big deal this is, check out the footage below of Flex and Cee on Hot97 in NYC. When they hear their namecheck around the 3:27 mark, Cee gets so excited he starts shaking. Funny.

And when Jay takes a pop at rival station Z100 (at 6:40), Flex has some fun at their expense.

Christian the lion - Bloody hell...

I only heard about this the other day (oh well, only 30 years late).

The story goes...

"In 1969 a young Australian, John Rendall and his friend Ace Bourke, bought a small lion cub from Harrods pet department, which was then legal. 'Christian' was kept in the basement of a furniture shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea, the heart of the swinging sixties. Loved by all, the affectionate cub ate in a local restaurant, played in a nearby graveyard, but was growing fast...

A chance encounter with Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna (Of the Born Free Foundation) led to a new life for Christian. He came to live in a huge enclosure and to sleep in a caravan at their Surrey home. Then in 1971 he was flown to Kenya, his ancestral home, and returned to the wild by lion-man George Adamson. Nine months later in 1972, John and Ace returned to Kora in Kenya. This clip is of their reunion at that time."

It was touch and go that he was going to recognise them for a while.

For me, if to bloody Aussies kept me in the basement of a shop in West London, I'd have bitten their heads clean off. But just because they're Australian.
