Alice in Wonderland - Trailer

Mental old Tim Burton strikes again.

Watching this whilst off your tits on booze could only improve the experience, I'd wager.

Note to Depp: Do some serious acting. Please.

Saw 6 - Teaser Trailer

I saw the first film. It was poor, but I had a few hours to kill.

I can tell you now, I won't be sparing 120 minutes of my life for this film...

Mayer Hawthorne & The Roots in NYC

Stones Throw's Mayer Hawthorne caught up with the legendary Roots crew in NYC last weekend, and performed Mayer's single 'Just Ain't Gonna Work Out'.

Arctic Monkeys - Crying Lightning (Video)

This premiered midnight last night.

Odd song and a suitably odd video. Alex Turner's hair may be rubbish, but his songwriting is still excellent (he gets points from me for mentioning Strawberry Laces in this track, the ones you used to get at Woolworths. I loved 'em.)

Louis Vuitton - 5th Avenue Window Display

Spotted at highsnobiety.com:

The Louis Vuitton 5th Avenue flagship store in New York City has put up a very interesting new window display. They basically tell the story of the iconic LV Speedy bag with a conveyor belt installation. Check it out!

Tron Legacy - Trailer

An HD version of the trailer that was shown at the Comic Con earlier this year for the film formerly known as 'TR2N'.

I can't wait for this. Just as a reminder, the soundtrack will be supplied by Daft Punk.

Cocaine's a helluva drug....

Part 1 of the legendary Charlie Murphy/Rick James sketches from Dave Chappelle's show.

Wu-Tang Clan - The Lego Chamber

This is funny. It must have been painstaking to produce, because at times it is a shot-for-shot perfect remake of the original 'Mystery Of Chessboxin' video by the Wu (all the way back in '93).

Mystery Team - Trailer

Strange one this.

If I didn't know any better, it seems to be celebrating mental illness... or mocking it.

Either way, I'm happy...

I don't care who makes them...

I'll admit that I'm a sucker for a designer label, but these could have been made by Jesus and I wouldn't go near them wearing an Anti-Swine Flu suit and holding a massive barge pole.
-
Available now at colette in Paris (and at their online store shop), these Martin Margiela one-lense sunglasses will set you back £350 quid. A small price to pay if your aim in life is to look like Doc Brown when he comes back from the future in his flying Delorean at the end of Back To The Future 1.

Carlos Tevez - The REAL translation

Due on 24th August. At the moment, I'm indifferent. I'm too into the Bombay Bicycle Club's album to care about this. That will all change next month, I'm sure.

MJ's Pepsi Ad Accident - 1984

Never before seen footage, liberated recently by a US magazine.

I always thought this had been hyped up, but Michael's hair is on fire for a good few seconds here. As he's helped off stage, you can clearly see a burned bald patch on the back of his head. Pepsi's insureres must have paid out big time for this...

The 'dance-kick' = Genius

Wow. Marty McJackson... There's so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to start.

Towards the end, the mum asks no one in particular "what about his image?" after her son loses his car. His image is the least of his problems. I'd be more worried about the fact that he's completely mental.

How the big fella doesn't choke him to death, I 'll never know...

Maxwell - Love You mp3

Some feelgood modern soul/pop music (for grown ups) from Maxwell's new album BLACKsummers'night, which is out now.
-
This is album number one of a trilogy (next part is called blackSUMMERS'night, the part after that blacksummers'NIGHT, or so they say).

Bombay Bicycle Club - Dust On The Ground mp3

As I've said before, this young 4-piece from North London are my favourite band at the moment. Their name is taken from a chain of Indian Take-Away restaurants, which makes me like them even more.
-
Their debut album "I had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose" is out now at all good record shops, and some bad ones too. It's excellent, and you can pick it up for less than 9 quid.
-

Previously, on eternalbroadcaster: Dust On The Ground (Video)

District 9 - Trailer

A UFO lands in Jo'burg, S.A. We decide to keep them prisoner. Of course we do...

This must be one long metaphor for the mistreatment of refugees in Africa. Probably.

"South Africa? But... you're black an alien?"

Roger Federer - Nike's 15th Slam Ad

Roger is a sporting hero of mine. It's not all about power and strength with him (although he does have those qualities).

His game embodies finesse, creativity and class. These are the same qualities I look for in all sports (which is why I support Liverpool, and don't consider rowing a sport worth caring about).

Anyway, this is an ad Nike released immediately after Wimbledon 2009 to celebrate Roger's amazing achievement of becoming the most successful tennis player ever.

Sunday 5 July 2009

The Box - Trailer

A suitably bonkers psych-thriller from 'Donnie Darko' director Kelly. Not sure if Diaz is cast correctly (or Masden for that matter) but I suppose I'll have to watch the flick to find out.

Going to struggle to get the wife along to this. Getting her to watch Scorsese's 'Shutter Island' will be hard enough...

Erykah & The Roots - I Wanna Be Where You Are (MJ Cover)

Badu and Questlove's legendary Roots Crew cover MikeJack's early 70's classic.

Michael Jackson Tribute Mags - The Good, The Bad and OK!

Time magazine cashing in with a special Commemorative Issue, released separately to their normal magazine. I get the feeling MJ would have liked this cover.
OK! chose to cover their 'tribute issue' with the last photograph taken of Michael, showing him being rushed to hospital, either moments from death or dead already (as he had stopped breathing at home, before the ambulance was called). This horrid cover made news across the globe. Elliott Wilson called it 'shameful'. I agree 100%. Rumours are circulating that the magazine paid $500,000 for the photo, but the cost to OK! could be far greater, as the complaints are literally streaming in from UK and US readers unhappy at the magazine's flagrant disregard for taste. Not that they've ever been known for their high standards in that department...

A cooler, throwback image from the 70's chosen by New York's The Village Voice. I think this is how most of us would like to remember Michael. Off The Wall was just about to come out, and his future was not yet determined. If only he had a friend who could have kept him on the right track.

A classic image of Michael, and classy monotone colours make this an attractive collectors edition of the world famous US music mag Rolling Stone. No silver glove on display, but the short trousers and contrasting socks are present.

London Police Mural - Amsterdam

-
The London Police were commissioned to throw this mural up in the centre of Amsterdam's historic Jordaan district. But things went quickly downhill...
-
Wooster Says: "Despite getting written permission from the owner of the building, the City Council has threatened to remove it. Local residents are now actively rallying to save it."
-
How people fail to appreciate this type of thing is beyond me... it's not like it says 'Sharon is a slag' or 'Dave and Trace 4 Eva'.

Summer Coolness from adidas

Another interesting colourway for the zx9000. Perfect for Summer. The blue sole does it for me.
-
Hard to believe that this was just a running shoe to start with. Running the London Marathon in these would raise eyebrows.
-
Available now at Shuh-You for 130 Euros.
Spotted over at hypebeast, who have more info and photos.

Happy 4th of July America!

Stupid people, every nation has them.

But the US has more.

This was clearly prior to Barack Obama becoming a household name. But the mind boggles at the fact that less than 24 months before he became President, his citizens blamed him for terrorism in Iraq.

The Invention of Lying - Trailer

I'm a massive Gervais fan, so I'm excited about this anyway.

But after his performance in Ghost Town, I'm sure that most people will be keenly anticipating the release of this...

No words...

Couples Retreat - Trailer

Good cast... delighted to see Peter Serafinowicz getting hollywood roles.

The Informant! - Trailer

*Team America Voice*

"Maaatt Damonnnn"

New from Steven 'Oceans 11/12/13/' Soderbergh, and George Clooney. I think this looks excellent, which is more than I can say for Matthew's nightmarishly putrid tache and barnet combo.

Public Enemies - Review

I saw this film last night, and here's my review: "It was alright." Stick that on your posters Universal Pictures!
-
Depp was very good as Bank Robber extraordinaire John Dillinger, 'Edith Piaf' was very good, Christian Bale was very Christian Bale, if you know what I mean. Michael Mann made it all look very shiny as he usually does (plus, this was essentially 'Heat' set in the 30's; driven bank robber is chased by driven lawman), but it was missing an emotional centre for me. I wasn't rooting for anyone. There was a slight injection of romantic tragedy in the last minutes, but by then it was too late.
-
So in summary; better than Mann's 'Miami Vice', but no match for 'Heat'.

Drake - Best I Ever Had (Video)

I told you back in April about this kid (and even gave you the mp3 for free). He's the next big thing across the pond (where it appears Rock & Roll has died, and poppy Rap&B is the way to go).

I didn't mind this track a few months back, it grew on me. But, thanks to radio-playlist ubiquity, I'm starting to get super-tired of this. Now we've got a video (directed by Kanye West), and so no doubt it will be an ever-present on TV now too. See what you think...

Skank Robbers - Trailer

Jamie Foxx is an ugly woman.

(Thankfully, this is not a real film. It's a spoof trailer made for the BET awards that took place last weekend)
