PJ Harvey - Written On The Forehead (Audio)

New Polly Jean. She get's weirder and weirder.

Cee Lo Green - Bodies (mp3)

Produced by Salaam Remi.

From The Lady Killer LP, out now.

True Grit (2010) Trailer

From Ethan and Joel Coen, and starring Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin.
Usually, I would avoid remakes at all costs, but the Coen's can do whatever they want in my book.

Best Website Ever?

Kim Jong Il looking at Corn.
*
Okay, maybe it's not the best website ever. But it made me laugh out loud.
*
Visit Kim Jong Il Looking at Things now for more timeless propaganda classics such as 'Kim looking at pigs' and 'Kim looking at a radish'. Genius.

Just because it's brilliant...

The Smiths - You've Got Everything Now (Live at the Hacienda)

Jay Electronica & JFK - The Announcement (Audio)

This is great. If he can keep up this intelligent, left-field approach to hip hop despite signing to the Roc Nation behemoth (home of Jay-Z, Willow Smith, Rihanna etc) then he will offer something genuinely different and meaningful in a genre devoid of substance at the moment (with a few exceptions.)

Nixon x Beastie Boys

Nixon watches team up with the Hot Sauce Committee.
*
RADCollector says: “With Mike D with a bottle of cognac on the face and the quotation ”I accept this award on behalf of the band” written on the band, the Maritime themed watch fits the Beastie steez to a tee. Only 20 global retailers will be dropping one of four colorways each week in December."
*
Not my thing personally, but trashily humourous. You can pick one up at Dover Street Market while stocks last.

Cowbell - Never Satisfied (Video)

I love this track. Hope you do too.

Cowbell are a blues/garage rock duo from London. Yes, it's a fella on guitar and vocals and a woman on drums. Sounds familiar doesnt it? I really dont care if they are a White Stripes rip off (they're not); this is great music.

Gorillaz - Crystalised (the XX cover - Video)

'Controversial' Live Lounge cover of the XX anthem.

Why is it controversial? I'll let NME tell you. Almost everybody else loved it
.
Personally, I quite like it despite the lack of energy or baseline. Plus, it features glockenspiels!

Back For Good?

After the best part of a year off, Eternal Broadcaster is returning.
*
More music, fashion, film, design nonsense that you may or may not care about will be forthcoming. Why..? Because the devil will find work for idle hands to do (c) S. P. Morrissey.

Jay Electronica - Exhibit A (Video snippet)

After all the fuss over Exhibit C, Jay is dropping a video to his earlier Exhibit A track, which I'm rediscovering a love for, thanks primarily to these new visuals. Frustratingly, this is only a snippet.

Enjoy.

Grizzly Bear cover Hot Chip

Grizzly Bear, creators of one of my albums of 2009 (I really need to finish those posts), cover one of Hot Chip's big singles from a few years back and change it from a dancey pop-track into a subtle folky lament. And it works.

Broken Bells - The High Road (Video)

"Something I spotted on The Sartorialist..."

I find myself saying that more and more.
-
This four are pretty damn cool. Beardy dude particularly so.
Click for close ups.
-
Scott 'The Sartorialist' Schuman spotted him at Costume National in Milan, took his photo, and pasted it into his blog (for those who didn't know what The Sartorialist was, that's it in a nutshell). Yes, it's all a bit vacuous, and it really is only images (very rarely, Schuman will comment on cut, colour, fit and effortlessness) but I like looking at 'nice things', and this blog ticks all the boxes. If you like clothes, design and people, then get familiar.

Cold Legistics - Beatle Juice mp3

I love this track at the moment. Love it.

-
A near perfect 1:59 instrumental.

State of the Artist - Common Senses mp3

A nice jazzy, laid back track (great horns) from the unsigned Seattle-based group, State of the Artist (sota), who have been together since 2007. Visit their website for more info.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (Trailer)

Yes... this is Wall Street 2.

But... Shia LeBeouf?

Good Shoes - The Way My Heart Beats mp3

-
The opening track from new album 'No Hope, No Future', out now.
-

Yeasayer - Ambling Alp mp3

The album leaked last December, and is available for retail in February.

Having had the album for over a month, I'm still struggling to get into it, but I can't get bored of this single.

The Goats - Typical American (Video)

I can't remember if I posted this before.

If I did, I don't care. I loved this track back in '92. Far from your average rap crew.

MacGruber - Red Band Trailer

From SNL.

This looks vaguely comedic, but could well be terrible. For those unfamiliar, it is a spoof of 80's hero MacGyver.

Hasn't The Simpsons covered all that needs to be in terms of piss takes of MacGyver?

Gil Scott-Heron - Me And The Devil (Video)

A legend returns...

Hot Chip - One Life Stand mp3

The 'new' Hot Chip track, from the album of the same name, due in February.

Broken Bells - October mp3

The Broken Bells album is coming in March. I have it now, and I'm trying to get into it now. For those who don't know, Broken Bells is DJ Dangermouse and the dude from The Shins.
-
Here is an album track called 'October'. It starts off slow and epic, but gets going pretty quickly. It's kind of a polished American indie-pop vibe, which Dangermouse can do in his sleep.

Update: mp3 removed due to the below:

"On behalf of Columbia Records, Monotone and Broken Bells, we would kindly ask you not to post copies of the "Broken Bells" / eponymous album on your site (or any non-preview tracks from Broken Bells’ new album - street date 9th March). We do appreciate that you are fans of / are promoting Broken Bells, but the label, management and artists would greatly appreciate your co-operation in removing your links to the pirate files in question."

Delphic - Doubt (Video)

How obvious is it that these lads are Mancunian?!

This is a cross between Electronic, New Order and the Chemical Brothers.

Good visuals too.

The Roots - Live on Jimmy Fallon (Mixtape)

For those that don't know, The Roots are currently acting as the house band on Jimmy Fallon's chat show in the US.
-
This mixtape is... well I'll let Shake of 2DB tell it... "a nice little collection of performance clips from Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon. Ludacris, Clipse, Wale, Q-Tip, 50 Cent, Raekwon, Goodie Mob, Black Star, Public Enemy and more rocking with the legendary Roots crew! Something for the fans to vibe to." Indeed.

Racist KFC Commercial?

Racist?

I don't know. It's a stereotype being reinforced, of course, but it really is meant to be lighthearted. I don't see any malice, but that doesn't mean it's not offensive.

I know a number of black dudes who laugh about how much they like fried chicken. Is this ad any worse than those where white people are mocked for having no rhythm? I think we're entering the realms of what is acceptable in comedy. I'm aware that this is not the work of a stand-up comedian pushing the boundaries of taste on stage, and a Corporate giant like KFC should probably know better than to stray into this type of area with their ad campaigns, but I can't help but think we're becoming too sensitive about race. We can't pretend we're all the same, and we have to have a sense of humour about ourselves.

That said, generalisations will always frustrate and annoy people, and that is the case here.

44 Inch Chest - Trailer

"44 Inch Chest is a provocative, outrageously profane and surprisingly tender film amidst an explosion of unbridled testosterone".

Sounds good to me...

Midlake - Children of the Grounds mp3

New Midlake, from their forthcoming new album, 'The Courage of Others', due for release in the UK on 1st February.
-
I'm working my way through a promo-copy of the album now, and whilst there is nothing as immediate as 'Roscoe', the general feel of the music is the same. It conjures an image of that M. Night Shyamalan film 'The Village' for me. I imagine these guys recording this album whilst wearing brown smocks and standing around a camp fire. They themselves have acknowledged that Olde English Folk music has been a continuing influence on their music, so I'm on the right path... enjoy...

Jay-Z - On To The Next One (Video feat. Swizz Beatz)

Not my favourite track by any means, however with these incredible arty/futuristic visuals, it seems to make a little more sense. This also plays into the hands of all of those "Jay-Z is a devil worshipping member of the Illuminati" rumours too. (Google that).

Featuring Swizz "Mr Alicia Keys" Beatz...
