Prince + Q-Tip = Goodness

This may not or may not be your thing, but you have to love the fact these two are working together.

Autotune Office

Nice little video poking fun at the chronic overuse of Auto Tune on what feels like EVERY single released in the past 12 months.

Tor x Sufjan Stevens x Grand Puba

^ That album is 17 years old and STILL a classic.
-
From the Sufjan Stevens mash-up (yep, still hate that term) album by Tor. This is great, and well worthy of its own post.

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal (Video)

I know it's been around for ever and ever, but I saw this video again over the weekend and thought it was worthy of its own post.

Tor remixes Sufjan Stevens - IllinoiZe

Sufjan Stevens classic album 'Illinoise' (well, 'Chicago' was excellent at any rate) gets a beats & rhymes blend/makeover from Montreal's Tor. Nice to see Puba included.
-
Tracklist:
1. Star of Wonder/None Shall Pass (ft. Aesop Rock)
2. Dumb I Sound/ATLiens (ft. Outkast)
3. John Wayne Gacy Jr./Specialize (ft. Pete Rock & CL Smooth)
4. The Tallest Man/I Like It (ft. Grand Puba)
5. Kill/Any Type of Way (ft. Big Daddy Kane & DJ Premier)
6. Night Zombies/Talkin’ My Shit (ft. Brother Ali)
7. The Dress Looks Nice On You/Make You Feel That Way (ft. Gift Of Gab)

here's the mp3 link to the mixtape.

'Only in America' Part 4761

A woman dialled emergency number 911 three times in Florida last week because shit-in-a-box peddlers McDonalds had run out of Chicken Nuggets. Honestly.
Click HERE for more and to hear this stupid cow calling the police and complaining that she was "being forced to eat something else".

Johnson & Jonson - Bout It Bout It (Video)

Off last years Johnson & Jonson album by Blu & Mainframe.

Not the best video, but you've got to love the track.

Oddisee & Trek Life - Long Time Coming mp3

This is a nice track, big drums and an Otis Redding sample. That makes me happy...

Liam Gallagher launches 'Pretty Green'

Liam launched a clothing label this week.
-
Named after a track by The Jam, Pretty Green will, according to its press release " Encapsulate the style and swagger of the most iconic front man of our generation". No matter what you think of my fellow Burnage-bred, sun-sheeeeiiiine singing arrogance machine, he is the best front man since Kurt Cobain (anyone who says Axl Rose, fuck off now). Style wise, he's missed as much as he's hit, but this line will be heavily mod influenced, which is a safe bet.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing the sample images... I'd have money on the coats being excellent.

Give 'em Hell, Malone - Trailer March

Looks alright... one for teenage boys perhaps.

OK! Magazine take bad taste to new levels

This has been out for days now. I saw it in a supermarket yesterday and thought I was dreaming. Now, I don't have strong feelings either way about Jade, but this gave me the hump.
-
In Loving Memory? Final Words? She's not fucking dead yet!
Wishing her away so you can sell more copies are you?
-
UPDATE, 22 March 2009: Okay, the poor girl died today, mothers day, leaving two young sons. I bet the publishers at OK! are rubbing their hands together. Scumbags.

Jil Sander to create line for Uniqlo

Jil Sander, she (formerly) of the Prada-owned label of the same name, is returning to design a line for cheap and cheerful Japanese High Street outfit Uniqlo, after a number of years away from the spotlight.
-
You've got to take your hat off to Uniqlo. After their recent Designers-Invitation efforts, most notably with Opening Ceremony, they've taken the high-street-meets-high-end idea (which reached it's pinnacle through H&M's Comme des Garcons capsule collection) to new heights.
-
I can see the fit with Sander in terms of the minimalism of Uniqlo, but I recall her designs as being quite muted (which her label has continued under Raf Simons), whereas her new hosts tend to go colour-mental, whether it be Summer or Winter. All will be revealed this autumn.

Peter Doherty - 1939 Returning mp3

This is alright. A nice gentle English lament, from Pete's new album, which came out Monday.
-
I know, the picture is harsh...

Reks - Bitter mp3

''Bitter' - from the 'More Grey Hairs' album. Features a nice Donny Hathaway sample from 'Giving Up', and some piano's from Stevie Wonders' 'Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer'. I'm a sample snitch. Enjoy...

Damn. Print Media is done...

Following hot on the heels of the demise of Arena magazine, issue 232 of Hip Hop Connection, a UK-based rap music magazine that holds the title of the longest running monthly of its type globally, will be it's last.
-
I used to buy this mag when I was 14 years old, back in the days when the only rap shown on TV was on Yo! MTV Raps or Normski's House Party. Now, admittedly, I haven't bought in about 8 years, which might be why it's going to the wall, but it was typically aimed at the 15 - 25 year old market (which I'm way passed). Youngsters are too internet focused to pick up a magazine for news and insight... the news they can get from Website's on a second-by-second basis, and the insight they get from chat rooms full of arseholes spouting opinions.
-
Print media may need it's last rites read.

Drag Me To Hell - Trailer

Wow. For all those who work in a bank and have turned down overdraft extensions, loans etc.

High Fashion Fuckery - Chanel's plastic, transparant briefcase

Jesus.
-
It's made of perspex. It's see through. Thanks to the great minds at Chanel you can now advertise the entire contents of your bag to everybody you randomly walk passed on the way to the tube station; from muggers (iPhone, Wallet) to prospective partners (Pornography, Canestan).
-
Seriously, you couldn't make this shit up.
-
Got to artschoolvets for more.

Exile - The Sound Is God mp3

The Sound is God.
-
I can't find fault in that statement. Or this song. Great instrumental Hip Hop... big beats, clever sampling and a melody. Plus, a vocal sample from an English dude. Almost perfect...

Arena Magazine - RIP

What a shame. The original (and best and funniest and smartest and most stylish) men's magazine on the UK market, Arena, will be publishing potentially it's final ever issue on Thursday after 22 years.
-
All we're left with is over-the-top gay fashion mags, tory-boy wankers handbook GQ and those seedy little porno-disguised-as-a-comic-book-for-absolute-fucking-pillocks, FHM, Nuts and Zoo.
-
I'm championing Buck to partially fill the void, although it is heavily fashion driven. Maybe grown men like me should stick to books and the paper?

Go to pressgazzette.co.uk to read more.

Blacastan - Life of a Tape (Video)

This is pretty hardcore, and the video is cheap and rough.

But... I like the luddite message of the track, and the nostalgia that it brings out in me... I remember fixing a TDK with 'Breaking Atoms' on it with cellotape. Twice.

KAWS x Lance Armstrong Madone Bike

Is there anything KAWS won't add his signature chompers motif to? This time he links with Lance 'Livestrong' to create a yellow trek bike with the KAWS teeth present on the wheels and the... EVERYWHERE.
-
Go to hypebeast to see more.

Adventureland - Red Band Trailer

This looks like Superbad x 10.

I never get tired of this type of film. Maybe it's because I'm such a fucking child.

12 Years?!

It's 12 years today since Biggie died. Wow... time flies.
I thought I'd post something that captures the essence of the competitive musician (after that abomination of a shiny biopic that came out recently tried its hardest to 'flashy up' the past).

This is genius... the dude he's battling just walks off at the end, comprehensively defeated...

Daft Punk + TR2N = Genius

This is the best news I've heard all week. All month in fact.
-
Somebody at Disney has really got their head on a swivel (c) Ron Burgundy.
Pioneering French dance music geniuses (yes, I'm a fan) Daft Punk have been signed up to score the forthcoming Tron sequel, 'TR2N', or 'Tron 2.0' depending on who you believe. The original is still a defining moment of my youth, and I get warm and fuzzy inside (not in a gay way though) when I think of Jeff Bridges throwing that deadly neon frisbee at 'the red blokes'.
-
This is the greatest fit in history. Well, the greatest fit since this one anyway. I'm putting money on this being the best album and best film of 2011.
