I'm looking forward to this flick. I bought my son the book last weekend, and I flicked through it. My initial thoughts were, firstly, how can Spike Jonze turn this into a 90 minute long feature? And secondly, how is he going to pitch it; purely as a kids film, or as a proper fantasy flick? I look forward to finding out, but one thing I do know is, it will be weird.

Public Enemies - Review

I saw this film last night, and here's my review: "It was alright." Stick that on your posters Universal Pictures!

Depp was very good as Bank Robber extraordinaire John Dillinger, 'Edith Piaf' was very good, Christian Bale was very Christian Bale, if you know what I mean. Michael Mann made it all look very shiny as he usually does (plus, this was essentially 'Heat' set in the 30's; driven bank robber is chased by driven lawman), but it was missing an emotional centre for me. I wasn't rooting for anyone. There was a slight injection of romantic tragedy in the last minutes, but by then it was too late.

So in summary; better than Mann's 'Miami Vice', but no match for 'Heat'.

Johnny Depp = Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's forthcoming fantasy-fest, Alice In Wonderland. I was just talking to the wife the other day about wanting to see Johnny Depp in more serious roles. Clearly this isn't going to be one of those.

Scorsese + Frank = A great fit

Martin Scorsese has signed up to direct a Frank Sinatra biopic being produced by Universal/Mandalay Pictures.

What a great fit. The only thing I'm wondering is... how is he going to crow-bar in his obligatory Rolling Stones song on the soundtrack? That might be trickier than casting the lead role...

Audi D7 Concept Car

I want one. But they exist only in a German car designers computer hard drive.

I love this because it's the closest thing to the mode of transport that Tron would use if he was a real bloke and lived in South London. If I could get inside the German dude's computer, in much the same way that Tron did, I might get to drive it. Yes, I'm a sad Tron-loving bastard. So what? (That's not me, by the way).

Wall Street 2: The Credit Crunch

Oliver Stone and Michael Douglas have signed up for a sequel to the 1987 greed and capitalism-bashing "Wall Street', prompted surely by the catastrophic collapse of global financial systems over the past 18 months.

This is great news for one reason... we get to see the Gordon Gecko character resurrected.

Daft Punk + TR2N = Genius

This is the best news I've heard all week. All month in fact.

Somebody at Disney has really got their head on a swivel (c) Ron Burgundy.

Pioneering French dance music geniuses (yes, I'm a fan) Daft Punk have been signed up to score the forthcoming Tron sequel, 'TR2N', or 'Tron 2.0' depending on who you believe. The original is still a defining moment of my youth, and I get warm and fuzzy inside (not in a gay way though) when I think of Jeff Bridges throwing that deadly neon frisbee at 'the red blokes'.

This is the greatest fit in history. Well, the greatest fit since this one anyway. I'm putting money on this being the best album and best film of 2011.
