Thom's Supergroup

Thom Yorke has pulled together a supergroup of sorts, including Flea and a chap from REM. Naturally, Nigel Godrich is also on board as a producer. A gig in LA acted as a rehearsal at the weekend...
-
"Flea, who began the evening playing nonchalantly off to the side of the stage, gradually moved toward centre stage, sharing the spotlight with Yorke while jamming on his bass guitar. At one point in the evening, a member of the audience shouted, "Play some Skynyrd!" Yorke responded by flashing both middle fingers, saying, "You think I should be playing Stone Temple Pilots too?"

Hmmmm. NME have the full story.

I dislike Coldplay...

...or at least everything they've done since their second album.
-
Apart from 'Fix You', which is very obvious but still catchy as hell, I'd rather shove a smashed pint glass up my bum than listen to Chris Martin's flat voice on a record. Anyway, here's a link to a live album they are giving free on their website.

Radiohead smashing the Grammy Awards

Radiohead performed their track '15 Step' at the Grannies (or whatever the fuck they're called) at the weekend and they were excellent. EXCELLENT. They enlisted the help of the USC Marching Band (does that justify the pervy lady pic at the top of the post?) and were just one of the British bands/artists to smash the yanks off the fucking stage in their own back yard that night.
*
And yes, if I sound a bit pissed off it's because I am. The reason is two fold:

(1) The Grammy Awards are shit. It's a popularity contest. They award the biggest sellers, on the whole. Hence Lil' Wayne wins Best Hip Hop album.

(2) The Grammys have lodged Copyright Claims on any video showing this performance. The mugs. Click the image above and you may find that Google Video still have a poor quality version.

Razorlight - 60 Thompson mp3

^ Nice hat Johnny (*looks for sarcasm button on keyboard*).

The album 'Slipway Fires' is out now. Here is a free mp3 of my current favourite track to encourage you to give your local record shop your local supermarket ten quid for it.

Coldplay x Jay-Z - "Viva La Hova" mixtape

The latest in a long line of Jay-Z mash-up (I hate that term, let's call it a 'blend') albums.
This one takes various acapella verses from Hov and couples them with music created solely from records made by Coldplay. Go to vivalahova.com for more info, and to hear Jay's take on the project.
Click the image above for a close-up of Eugene Delacroix's painting from 1830 with Rocafella chains and Yankee fitteds photoshopped in. Excellent.

Oasis Live in Liverpool

Oasis kicked off their UK tour at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Tuesday night. It was a live debut for their new drummer (former Robbie Williams drummer and scouser Chris Sharrock, who replaces Ringos' boy Zack Starkey).
*
They were introduced as "the best band in the world" by boxer Ricky Hatton, who added that if anyone tried to push Noel off the stage (in reference to this incident last month) then he'd give them a slap. Needless to say, the band went unmolested all night.

Coldplay x Jay-Z

According to the fair hand of Mr. Paltrow himself, Jay-Z has hopped on a remix to Lost!, the new Coldplay single, and we'll get to hear that very soon indeed. The album version of the song certainly lends itself to rap, due to it's big boom-bap beats. Personally, I will still only listen to the more acoustic piano-led demo version, which is far superior in my opinion.
That said, Jay-Z on form might be drag me towards this version though.

Coldplay - Lost (Piano Version) mp3

New music from Coldplay. This may have been the demo version as the only accompaniment is a piano, unlike the clap-beat/organ heavy album version. This version is certainly less upbeat in mood than the album mix. I prefer this.
The final version can be found on Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, out June 12th.
