The only R&B dude smoother than D'Angelo (although D still holds the title as the G.O.A.T. of new soul music). Isn't it refreshing to hear/see proper modern soul music, without an Autotune chorus, some chaps showing us their watch, half naked women and a rented Bentley in the video/verses?

My favourite song, from my second favourite album of all time (it comes after this one, but before this one). On my favourite tracks list, the original 9+ minute recording (far superior to this) is in the top 10. Here, he sings like he's in a hurry.

Van the Man has stayed sober enough to tour a front to back performance of this seminal, genre-defining album from 1968. This recording is taken from the album of the Hollywood Bowl performance. If this is your first time hearing this, I emplore you, no, BEG YOU, pick up this album asap. You can get it for a fiver (which I equate to selling a Monet for 4.99).

It's one of the most romantic, heartbreaking albums ever recorded.

Ever since I heard 'Another World', which had a profound impact on me during a difficult month, I've been looking forward to this more than any other incoming long-player.

It's been on repeat on my iTunes all weekend, and it's a beautiful, gentle and at times unsettling album. Below is an mp3 of a stand out track, although the standard is just as high throughout. And yes, I have tagged this post 'Soul'. If Antony's music is not that, then what is it?

D'Angelo - Spanish Joint (Live Acoustic) mp3

This is a rip of a live version of D'Angelo's 'Spanish Joint' track. Just a piano, D'Angelo's voice, and an incredible song.

I first heard this on Gilles Peterson's Radio 1 show a few weeks back and have been scouring 'the internets' for an mp3. Nobody has one. I don't know where this track came from, but there is a very similarly orchestrated live version of 'Africa' (also from the classic 'Voodoo' album) out there that seems to be from a documentary or interview. Either way, download this and enjoy. The mp3 of the live version of 'Africa' will follow in the next day or so.
