Public Enemies - Review

I saw this film last night, and here's my review: "It was alright." Stick that on your posters Universal Pictures!
-
Depp was very good as Bank Robber extraordinaire John Dillinger, 'Edith Piaf' was very good, Christian Bale was very Christian Bale, if you know what I mean. Michael Mann made it all look very shiny as he usually does (plus, this was essentially 'Heat' set in the 30's; driven bank robber is chased by driven lawman), but it was missing an emotional centre for me. I wasn't rooting for anyone. There was a slight injection of romantic tragedy in the last minutes, but by then it was too late.
-
So in summary; better than Mann's 'Miami Vice', but no match for 'Heat'.

Audi D7 Concept Car

I want one. But they exist only in a German car designers computer hard drive.
-
I love this because it's the closest thing to the mode of transport that Tron would use if he was a real bloke and lived in South London. If I could get inside the German dude's computer, in much the same way that Tron did, I might get to drive it. Yes, I'm a sad Tron-loving bastard. So what? (That's not me, by the way).
-
See more pics at fubiz, including the sexy red brake lights and a few 'daylight' shots.
And don't forget, Tron 2 hits screens in 2011, with the soundtrack and score provided by Daft Punk. I'm giddy with excitement.

Dior Homme Chiffre Rouge a05

Try and tell me that is not the coolest watch you've seen in years (click the image for a close-up). The ruby red rear-side to the face is beautiful (yes, I know it's only a watch). For just 2,500 of Her Majesty's Glorious English Pound Sterling, it can be yours. I'm tempted.
Go here if you are flush and you want one: Dior Homme.

Lanvin Trainers - Sell your car, buy a pair

Spring/Summer 09 trainers from Lanvin.
*
Usually, fashion house trainers are poor... either too dainty or too bulky, and more often than not, patent. However, I picked the bottom pair up in Selfridges a few weeks back and they were excellent. I've had dirty dreams about them. But, at 325 quid a pair, like a mistress, they are expensive and if your wife finds out about them, she'll kill you.

Are you a prick? Yes? Then buy this now!

Now I like shiny things, but this is just a guitar for c*nts from Chanel.
*
Apparently it's not even remotely a decent guitar soundwise, but it IS by Chanel. So it's an ornament for rich people who want to look cool. Fucking hell...
According to highsnobiety.com, who have more pics, "the guitar comes in all black, with white accents, and is wrapped in a signature quilted white Chanel leather guitar bag".
No word yet on what it costs, but I'm sure it would make me physically sick.

Palm-Pre - The REAL iPhone Killer?

Many have come before it and failed to dent the all-conquering iPhone. Those in the know, however, say this may be the one to eat into Apple's smartphone market share. Click the image for more info and pics courtesy of the chaps at hypebeast.

Baby madness...

I really don't know what to say about this phenomenon.
Collectables, whether it be sought-after deadstock sneakers or limited-edition collaborative t-shirts, has always seemed fairly harmless to me (and, personally, I'd go as far as saying interesting, cool and addictive too!).
But this baby-focused nonsense is just weird. And gratuitous.
In fact, it's dictionary-definition 'fuckery'.
*
The picture directly above is Marc Jacobs' limited edition Bugaboo buggy (only 15 made, starting bid of $2500 on ebay), and at the top is part of Henrik Vibskov's capsule collection for Quinny (which are bloody expensive anyway, without the marquee-name design).
*
If you must, go to Fabric Mag for more images of this Vibskov mess, including a bloody poncho!

IHT visit Colette in Paris (Video)

*
The International Herald Tribune give us a feel for the newly renovated Colette in this short video.
They touch on how streetwear is a growing element of the boutique department stores' business since the plush refit. And why not... £150 for a t-shirt sounds like good business.
I'll be visiting next weekend, straight from hopping off the Eurostar, but purely in a window-shopping capacity I imagine.

Bang & Olufson Serenata Mobile Phone

The above is a picture of Kanye West, bragging all over his blog about having 'copped' the new B&O mobile phone. I can't blame him. If I had one, I'd be doing the same right now. But, they cost over a thousand quid for an unlocked one, so I'll have to admire it from afar.

BlackBerry Storm Smartphone

A first look at the latest in a long line of supposed 'iPhone Killers', set for a November/December 2008 release.
*
A mate of mine (who works in the industry) showed me this phone over a month ago, and I wasn't so sure about it. The screen is nice and large, but it delicately pivots in its housing when you press it (in order to provide a level of 'feel' it's competitors cannot match). This not only feels strange, but also gives me the impression that it could easily be broken.
That said, it looks great which is half the battle.

New Apple MacBook

The new Apple MacBook, featuring a new "aluminium unibody enclosure". Now, I don't know what that means, but I do know that I want one. They start at £949 here in the UK.

Jean Paul Gaultier x Evian

Every year, Evian collaborate with a designer to create a special edition bottle around the festive period. This year, it was Hermes CD Jean Paul Gaultiers' turn. There's not an awful lot you can do with a bottle of water, despite it being a blank canvas, and keep it practical, but this looks suitably posh to persuade certain arseholes to part with lots of cash for some filtered tap water.
*
That said, I still want one... Click the image for more info.

Citroen 2CV x Hermes

To celebrate it's 60th birthday, Citroen asked the design team at Hermes to give their classic 2CV model a makeover.
Featuring their trademark colour as well as some neat leather accessories (see the inside of the drivers door) and of course the Hermes stamp on the dashboard, this is the quirky fashion victims dream come true.

Guess what... they've all gone. But if you've got 500 quid lying around, you can go here and get two of them. Bargain.

adidas Brand Centre - Beijing

adidas have just completed work on their biggest shop.
It's been built in China to coincide with this years Olympic games.
Yes, this is a very impressive building (although it doesn't exactly blend in with its surroundings does it?), and if I lived in Beijing, I'd probably bankrupt myself on Y-3 gear and football shorts. But something just doesn't feel right. Maybe it's because I get the impression it was built using slave labour on a site where people used to live until the government bulldozed their homes while they were at work, and left them a cheque for 30% of the property's market value.
Without question, this Olympic games will be a memorable spectacle, but I'm pretty certain it will take months to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Would you bet against the Chinese police shooting at demonstrators at some point during the games?
Neither would I...

The Million Dollar Laptop

Jesus.
This laptop, made by the company Singulum, comes in a variety of 'exotic' woods and your choice of an ivory or gold keyboard. The cherry on top, almost literally, is that the touch-sensitive point-tip can be a diamond, if sir or madam wishes. It will cost you (little finger to the side of mouth)... one million dollars! That's a lot of money for a machine that will be used just to look at porn.
If you must, go here to see more pictures.

Leak: iPhone 2 images

Looks like I'll be taking a hammer to my house brick-sized iPhone pretty soon. Steve Jobs is ready to take another 300 quid from me if this story is to be believed (click the story for a bunch of images!).
Apple Inc have spotted these photo's before, and demanded that they are taken down immediately before their lawyers get involved.
***************
Promising a slimmer phone with a longer battery life (as well as 'Video Chat', which sounds a little bit 'Back To The Future 2' to me), the iPhone 2 is on it's way, and those in the know in Silicon Valley are expecting an announcement in the next week or so.
